The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

गुणवान्निर्गुणो जात इत्यनर्थक्रमं विदुः ।
निर्गुणो गुणवाञ्जात इत्याहुः सिद्धिदं क्रमम् ॥ ४ ॥

guṇavānnirguṇo jāta ityanarthakramaṃ viduḥ |
nirguṇo guṇavāñjāta ityāhuḥ siddhidaṃ kramam || 4 ||

A virtuous man turning impious, becomes of course the source of evil;but an unworthy man becoming meritorious, is doubtless a step towards his better being and blessedness.
