The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

स्वप्रयत्नादृते पुंसः श्रेयसे संप्रवर्तते ।
भोगसंत्यागसंप्राप्तपरमार्थादृते सुत ॥ ५८ ॥

svaprayatnādṛte puṃsaḥ śreyase saṃpravartate |
bhogasaṃtyāgasaṃprāptaparamārthādṛte suta || 58 ||

Those things are of no good whatever, my boy, that may be had without one's own exertion in gaining it; nor is there any true happiness, without the resignation of earthly enjoyments.
