The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.24.49

शनैः शनैर्लालनीयं युक्तिभिः पावनोक्तिभिः ।
शास्त्रार्थपरिणामेन पालयेच्चित्तबालकम् ॥ ४९ ॥

śanaiḥ śanairlālanīyaṃ yuktibhiḥ pāvanoktibhiḥ |
śāstrārthapariṇāmena pālayeccittabālakam || 49 ||

The mind is to be trained by degrees, like a boy in the path of learning; namely by means of persuasion and good lectures, and then by teaching of the sastras, and lastly by discussion of their doctrines.
