The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

बाह्यार्थव्यसनोच्छूना तृष्णा बद्धेति राघव ।
सर्वार्थव्यसनोन्मुक्ता तृष्णा मुक्तेति कथ्यते ॥ ५ ॥

bāhyārthavyasanocchūnā tṛṣṇā baddheti rāghava |
sarvārthavyasanonmuktā tṛṣṇā mukteti kathyate || 5 ||

The desire of enjoying the external objects, is verily the bondage of the soul; but its indifference to worldly enjoyments, is what constitutes one's freedom in his living state.
