The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

एतावच्चेतसो जन्म बीजं संसारभूतये ।
संकल्पोन्मुखतां यातः संविदो वा किलात्मनः ॥ ८१ ॥

etāvaccetaso janma bījaṃ saṃsārabhūtaye |
saṃkalponmukhatāṃ yātaḥ saṃvido vā kilātmanaḥ || 81 ||

Such is the origin of the mind which is the root of creation; it is the faculty of the volition of the principle of our consciousness, otherwise called the soul.
