The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.12.17

न तद्गुरोर्न शास्त्रार्थान्न पुण्यात्प्राप्यते पदम् ।
यत्साधुसङ्गाभ्युदिताद्विचारविशदाद्धृदः ॥ १७ ॥

na tadgurorna śāstrārthānna puṇyātprāpyate padam |
yatsādhusaṅgābhyuditādvicāraviśadāddhṛdaḥ || 17 ||

The presence of the Holy Light, is not to be had either by the lectures of a preceptor, or the teaching of the sastras; it is not the result of meritorious acts, nor of the company of the holy men; but the result of your own intellection.
