The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.11.2

इष्टानिष्टाः परित्यज्य चेतसा वासनाः स्वयम् ।
यथाप्राप्तं चकारासौ जाग्रत्येव सुषुप्तवत् ॥ २ ॥

iṣṭāniṣṭāḥ parityajya cetasā vāsanāḥ svayam |
yathāprāptaṃ cakārāsau jāgratyeva suṣuptavat || 2 ||

He discharged his duties as they presented themselves to him, without any concern or expectation of their rewards. He did them awaking as if it were in his sleep. Gloss:—He did his acts by rote, but wot not what he did in his insensibility of them; and such acts of insensibility are free from culpability or retribution.
