The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.5.27

जडधर्मि मनो यावद्गर्तकच्छपवत्स्थितम् ।
भोगमार्गवदामूढं विस्मृतात्मविचारणम् ॥ २७ ॥

jaḍadharmi mano yāvadgartakacchapavatsthitam |
bhogamārgavadāmūḍhaṃ vismṛtātmavicāraṇam || 27 ||

The mind which is of a gross nature, resides in the cell of the body, like a tortoise dwelling in its hole; it is insensibly intent upon its sensual enjoyments, and is quite neglectful about the welfare of the soul.
