The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.57.58

वज्रार्पितोपममसन्मयमम्बुभङ्गतुङ्गं तरङ्गकृतबिम्बमिवावलोक्य ।
लोलां तदीहितसुखेषु रतिं न याति तज्ज्ञः कुशैवललवेष्विव राजहंसः ॥ ५८ ॥

vajrārpitopamamasanmayamambubhaṅgatuṅgaṃ taraṅgakṛtabimbamivāvalokya |
lolāṃ tadīhitasukheṣu ratiṃ na yāti tajjñaḥ kuśaivalalaveṣviva rājahaṃsaḥ || 58 ||

The material world appears as a solid rock to the stolid ignorant;but it seems as the evanescent wave to the wise. The ignorant take a great pleasure in the transitory enjoyments of the world; but the wise take them to no account, as the swan disdains to look upon the moss of the lake.
