The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अतः स्वात्मनि कर्तृत्वमकर्तृत्वं च संस्थितम् ।
निरिच्छत्वादकर्तासौ कर्ता संनिधिमात्रतः ॥ ३१ ॥

ataḥ svātmani kartṛtvamakartṛtvaṃ ca saṃsthitam |
niricchatvādakartāsau kartā saṃnidhimātrataḥ || 31 ||

Thus are causality and its want also both situated in your soul, which is thence called the cause of your actions, because of its presence in the body; and as no cause likewise owing to its want of will.
