The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.42.26

एवं जीवो हि संकल्पवासनारज्जुवेष्टितः ।
दुःखजालपरीतात्मा क्रमादायाति चित्तताम् ॥ २६ ॥

evaṃ jīvo hi saṃkalpavāsanārajjuveṣṭitaḥ |
duḥkhajālaparītātmā kramādāyāti cittatām || 26 ||

Thus the living soul being tied to its thoughts and desires, and being entrapped in the net of pain and sorrow, is termed Chitta or heart.
