The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अहंभावतमो यावज्जन्मारण्ये विजृम्भते ।
तावदेता विवल्गन्ति चिन्तामत्ताः पिशाचिकाः ॥ ४० ॥

ahaṃbhāvatamo yāvajjanmāraṇye vijṛmbhate |
tāvadetā vivalganti cintāmattāḥ piśācikāḥ || 40 ||

As long as the darkness of egoism reigns over the wilderness of human life, so long doth the goblin of selfishness infest it with its wanton revelry.
