The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.31.1

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
अतः प्रबोधाय तव वच्मि राम महामते ।
दामव्यालकटन्यायो मा तेऽस्त्विति तु लीलया ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
ataḥ prabodhāya tava vacmi rāma mahāmate |
dāmavyālakaṭanyāyo mā te'stviti tu līlayā || 1 ||

Vasishtha continued:—It was for your enlightenment, O high minded Rama! that I have related to you the instance of Dama and Vyala, that you may derive instruction thereby, and not let it go for nothing as a mere idle story.
