The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.29.14

कथं सुरा जगत्यस्मिन्भवाम इति चिन्तया ।
विवशा दीनतां जग्मुः पद्मा इव निरम्भसः ॥ १४ ॥

kathaṃ surā jagatyasminbhavāma iti cintayā |
vivaśā dīnatāṃ jagmuḥ padmā iva nirambhasaḥ || 14 ||

They thought only how to become lords of the earth, and thus became lazy and enervated, as lotus-flowers without water.
