The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.27.32

धीरोऽप्यतिबहुज्ञोऽपि कुलजोऽपि महानपि ।
तृष्णया बध्यते जन्तुः सिंहः शृङ्खलया यथा ॥ ३२ ॥

dhīro'pyatibahujño'pi kulajo'pi mahānapi |
tṛṣṇayā badhyate jantuḥ siṃhaḥ śṛṅkhalayā yathā || 32 ||

One may be very learned and well-informed in every thing, he may be a noble and great man also, but he is sure to be tied down by his avarice, as a lion is fettered by his chain.
