The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.24.11

सामन्तश्चेन्द्रियाक्रान्तेर्मनो मन्ये विवेकिनः ।
लालनात्स्निग्धललना पालनात्पावनः पिता ॥ ११ ॥

sāmantaścendriyākrāntermano manye vivekinaḥ |
lālanātsnigdhalalanā pālanātpāvanaḥ pitā || 11 ||

He is the faithful servant, who acts according to the will of his master, and he is the true minister who does good services to his prince. He is the best general who has command over the force of his own body, and that is the best understanding which is guided by reason.
