The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

पूर्वं विवेकेन तनुत्वमेति रागोऽथ वैरं च समूलमेव ।
पश्चात्परिक्षीयत एव यत्नः स पावनो यत्र विवेकितास्ति ॥ ७० ॥

pūrvaṃ vivekena tanutvameti rāgo'tha vairaṃ ca samūlameva |
paścātparikṣīyata eva yatnaḥ sa pāvano yatra vivekitāsti || 70 ||

Wisdom serves at first to weaken our passions and enmity, and then uproot them at once, and at last it lessens our desires and endeavours, and gives an appearance of holiness to its possessor.
