The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

काले पूर्वजया तन्वा तपः कृत्वा तया पुनः ।
गुरुत्वमसुरेन्द्राणां कर्तव्यं भवतानघ ॥ ३ ॥

kāle pūrvajayā tanvā tapaḥ kṛtvā tayā punaḥ |
gurutvamasurendrāṇāṃ kartavyaṃ bhavatānagha || 3 ||

Thou shalt perform austere devotion with this thy first born body, and obtain by virtue of that, the preceptorship of the Daitya tribe.
