The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.15.39

सुखेषु सुखिता नित्यं दुःखिता दुःखवृत्तिषु ।
महात्मानो हि दृश्यन्ते दृश्य एवाप्रबुद्धवत् ॥ ३९ ॥

sukheṣu sukhitā nityaṃ duḥkhitā duḥkhavṛttiṣu |
mahātmāno hi dṛśyante dṛśya evāprabuddhavat || 39 ||

Even great souls are seen to feel happy in pleasure and become sorrowful in matters of pain; and show themselves as the wise in their outward circumstances.
