The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.11.40

नष्टानष्टाः पुनर्जाता जाताजाताः पुनः पुनः ।
परस्परपरामर्शान्नान्यतामुपयान्त्यलम् ॥ ४० ॥

naṣṭānaṣṭāḥ punarjātā jātājātāḥ punaḥ punaḥ |
parasparaparāmarśānnānyatāmupayāntyalam || 40 ||

The dead are undying (because they die to be born again), and the living are not living (because they live but to die at last). Thus is the law of their mutual succession which nothing can forefend or alter.
