Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.11.20

करोत्यकृतमाकारं कृतं नाशयति क्षणात् ।
संकल्पेन मनोमोहाद्बालो वेतालकं यथा ॥ २० ॥

karotyakṛtamākāraṃ kṛtaṃ nāśayati kṣaṇāt |
saṃkalpena manomohādbālo vetālakaṃ yathā || 20 ||

It frames a form and gives a feature to the person, that it had not before; and destroys one in existence in a moment. It is the imagination that gives an image to airy nothing, as children see ghosts before them in the dark.
