The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.122.54

सत्तामात्रेण दीपस्य यथालोकः स्वभावतः ।
चित्तत्त्वस्य स्वभावात्तु तथेयं जागती स्थितिः ॥ ५४ ॥

sattāmātreṇa dīpasya yathālokaḥ svabhāvataḥ |
cittattvasya svabhāvāttu tatheyaṃ jāgatī sthitiḥ || 54 ||

As it is the nature of a lighted lamp to spread its lustre all around, so it is the nature of mental philosophy, to enlighten us with the real state of the soul.
