The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.115.19

जडो देहो न दुःखार्हो दुःखी देह्यविचारतः ।
अविचारो घनाज्ञानादज्ञानं दुःखकारणम् ॥ १९ ॥

jaḍo deho na duḥkhārho duḥkhī dehyavicārataḥ |
avicāro ghanājñānādajñānaṃ duḥkhakāraṇam || 19 ||

The body is dull matter and is insensible of pain and pleasure; it is the embodied being, which is said to be subject to these by men of right reason: and this by reason of its impervious ignorance and irrationality, is the cause of its own misery.
