The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

स्वयं दीपशिखेवाशु क्षीयते स्नेहसंक्षये ।
सिन्दूरधूलिलेखेव विना रागं विराजते ॥ २२ ॥

svayaṃ dīpaśikhevāśu kṣīyate snehasaṃkṣaye |
sindūradhūlilekheva vinā rāgaṃ virājate || 22 ||

Our love of the world, ceases soon without the objects of our affection; as the lamp is extinguished without its oil, and as the vermilion mark, which is soon effaced.
