The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.81.64

न विना द्रष्टतामस्ति दृश्यसत्ता कथंचन ।
पितृतेव विना पुत्रं द्वितेवैक्यपदं विना ॥ ६४ ॥

na vinā draṣṭatāmasti dṛśyasattā kathaṃcana |
pitṛteva vinā putraṃ dvitevaikyapadaṃ vinā || 64 ||

There can be no object of sight, unless there is a looker also, as there can be no child without its parent. This duality (of their mutual dependence upon one another), proceeds from the want of knowledge of their unity (i.e. the viewer, the view and the vision.
