The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.78.40

समस्तगुणजालानामध्यात्मज्ञानमुत्तमम् ।
तद्विद्राजा भवेद्राजा तद्विन्मन्त्री च मन्त्रवित् ॥ ४० ॥

samastaguṇajālānāmadhyātmajñānamuttamam |
tadvidrājā bhavedrājā tadvinmantrī ca mantravit || 40 ||

But kings must have spiritual knowledge also, because it is the highest of human knowledge. The king having this knowledge, becomes the best of kings; and the minister who knows the soul, can give the best counsel for the guidance of other souls.
