The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.67.4

स्वभावात्कारणं द्वित्वं पूर्वसंकल्पचित्स्वयम् ।
नानाकारणतां पश्चाद्याति जन्ममृतिस्थितेः ॥ ४ ॥

svabhāvātkāraṇaṃ dvitvaṃ pūrvasaṃkalpacitsvayam |
nānākāraṇatāṃ paścādyāti janmamṛtisthiteḥ || 4 ||

There are two causal principles combined with the living soul, namely: its predestination resulting from its prior acts and volitions; and its later free will which branch forth severally into the various causes of birth, death and subsistence of beings.
