The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.66.1

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
एवमेकं परं वस्तु राम नानात्वमेत्यलम् ।
नानात्वमिव संजातं दीपाद्दीपशतं यथा ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
evamekaṃ paraṃ vastu rāma nānātvametyalam |
nānātvamiva saṃjātaṃ dīpāddīpaśataṃ yathā || 1 ||

Thus Rama! there is one true essence, which appears many by our mistake;and this variety is caused by the production of one from the other, as one lamp is lighted from another.
