The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

संकल्पः कलनाबीजं तदात्मैव हि जीवकः ।
कर्म पश्चात्तनोत्युच्चैरुत्थायाकर्मतः क्रमात् ॥ २७ ॥

saṃkalpaḥ kalanābījaṃ tadātmaiva hi jīvakaḥ |
karma paścāttanotyuccairutthāyākarmataḥ kramāt || 27 ||

Thoughts are the seeds of action, and action is the soul of life. Past acts are productive of future consequence, but inaction is attended with no result.
