The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.55.58

वृक्षाणामुपलानां या नामान्तःस्थाः स्वसंविदः ।
बुद्ध्यादिविहितान्येव तानि तेषामिति स्थितिः ॥ ५८ ॥

vṛkṣāṇāmupalānāṃ yā nāmāntaḥsthāḥ svasaṃvidaḥ |
buddhyādivihitānyeva tāni teṣāmiti sthitiḥ || 58 ||

The varying idiosyncrasy subsisting in vegetables and minerals, makes them feel themselves as such, and causes their various natures and forms, as they have to this time.
