The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

श्रीदेव्युवाच ।
नाडीप्रवाहे विधुरे यदा वातविसंस्थितिम् ।
जन्तुः प्राप्नोति हि तदा शाम्यतीवास्य चेतना ॥ २ ॥

śrīdevyuvāca |
nāḍīpravāhe vidhure yadā vātavisaṃsthitim |
jantuḥ prāpnoti hi tadā śāmyatīvāsya cetanā || 2 ||

The goddess replied:—As the action of the heart ceases to act, and the lungs blow and breathe no more, the current of the vital airs is utterly stopped, and the living being loses its sensibility.
