The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.54.57

श्रीदेव्युवाच ।
एवं संविहितं कर्म सर्गादौ स्पन्दसंविदा ।
यद्यस्मिन्समये दुःखं कालेनैतावतेदृशम् ॥ ५७ ॥

śrīdevyuvāca |
evaṃ saṃvihitaṃ karma sargādau spandasaṃvidā |
yadyasminsamaye duḥkhaṃ kālenaitāvatedṛśam || 57 ||

The goddess replied:—It is the law appointed by the author of life from the first, that such and such pains are to fall to the lot of living beings at such and such times.
