The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
हतो राजा हतो राजा प्रतिराजेन संयुगे ।
इतिशब्दे समुद्भूते राष्ट्रमासीद्भयाकुलम् ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
hato rājā hato rājā pratirājena saṃyuge |
itiśabde samudbhūte rāṣṭramāsīdbhayākulam || 1 ||

Vasishtha said:—The loud cry that the king was killed in battle by the rival monarch, struck the people with awe, and filled the realm with dismay.
