The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
एवं निशाचराचारचिरघोरे रणाङ्गणे ।
अहनीव जनाचारे स्थिते यामावरेहिते ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
evaṃ niśācarācāraciraghore raṇāṅgaṇe |
ahanīva janācāre sthite yāmāvarehite || 1 ||

Vasishtha related:—The nocturnal fiends were thus infesting the gloomy field, and the myrmidons of death (Yama), roaming about it as marauders in the day time.
