The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.31.24

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
शास्त्रोक्ताचारयुक्तस्य प्रभोरर्थेन यो रणे ।
मृतो वाथ जयी वा स्यात्स शूरः शूरलोकभाक् ॥ २४ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
śāstroktācārayuktasya prabhorarthena yo raṇe |
mṛto vātha jayī vā syātsa śūraḥ śūralokabhāk || 24 ||

Vasishtha answered said:—He who engages in a lawful warfare, and fights for his king, and whether he dies or becomes victorious in the field, is called a hero, and goes to heaven.
