The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

ब्राह्मणब्राह्मणीरूपे सर्गे कारणसंस्मृतिः ।
कथमभ्युत्थिता सास्य स्मरणीयमिदं विना ॥ १६ ॥

brāhmaṇabrāhmaṇīrūpe sarge kāraṇasaṃsmṛtiḥ |
kathamabhyutthitā sāsya smaraṇīyamidaṃ vinā || 16 ||

Lila said:—If reminiscence be the cause of one's reproduction, then say, O goddess! what were the causes of the birth of the Brahmanic pair, without the vestiges of their past remembrance.
