The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.20.16

प्राक्तनी सा स्मृतिर्लुप्ता युवयोरुदितान्यथा ।
स्वप्ने जाग्रत्स्मृतिर्यद्वदेतन्मरणमङ्गने ॥ १६ ॥

prāktanī sā smṛtirluptā yuvayoruditānyathā |
svapne jāgratsmṛtiryadvadetanmaraṇamaṅgane || 16 ||

But you have lost the remembrance of the states of your former lives after death, as they lose the recollection of waking events in the dreaming state.
