Yoga Vasistha [sanskrit]

223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.13.33

असत्यां सत्यसंकाशां ब्रह्मास्ते जीवशब्दवत् ।
इत्थं स जीवशब्दार्थः कलनाकुलतां गतः ॥ ३३ ॥

asatyāṃ satyasaṃkāśāṃ brahmāste jīvaśabdavat |
itthaṃ sa jīvaśabdārthaḥ kalanākulatāṃ gataḥ || 33 ||

The word Jiva or the living soul (zoa), is brought under a figurative sense, 'to mean something real in the unreal body'. Hence Brahma is said to be the life and soul of the unreal world.
