The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.7.16

जीव एव हि संसारश्चेतना दुःखसंततिः ।
अस्मिञ्ज्ञाते न विज्ञातं किंचिद्भवति कुत्रचित् ॥ १६ ॥

jīva eva hi saṃsāraścetanā duḥkhasaṃtatiḥ |
asmiñjñāte na vijñātaṃ kiṃcidbhavati kutracit || 16 ||

Whoso believes the animal soul as the life of the world (or mundane soul), and thinks (the knowledge of the) Intelligence to be attended with pain only, he can never know Him anywhere.
