223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.1.15

मनः संपद्यते तेन महतः परमात्मनः ।
सुस्थिरादस्थिराकारस्तरङ्ग इव वारिधेः ॥ १५ ॥

manaḥ saṃpadyate tena mahataḥ paramātmanaḥ |
susthirādasthirākārastaraṅga iva vāridheḥ || 15 ||

Thus the mind is produced and changed from the quiescent nature of the Great Supreme Spirit to a state of restlessness (asthirakara) like that of a surge, heaving itself in the (Pacific) Ocean.
