The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 2.20.1

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
आर्यसंगमयुक्त्यादौ प्रज्ञां वृद्धिं नयेद्बलात् ।
ततो महापुरुषतां महापुरुषलक्षणैः ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
āryasaṃgamayuktyādau prajñāṃ vṛddhiṃ nayedbalāt |
tato mahāpuruṣatāṃ mahāpuruṣalakṣaṇaiḥ || 1 ||

It is the society of the respectable and reasoning with them, that leads most efficiently to the improvement of the understanding, and next to the making of a great man, with all the characteristics of greatness.
