The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

संसारोत्तरणे जन्तोरुपायो ज्ञानमेव हि ।
तपो दानं तथा तीर्थमनुपायाः प्रकीर्तिताः ॥ २२ ॥

saṃsārottaraṇe jantorupāyo jñānameva hi |
tapo dānaṃ tathā tīrthamanupāyāḥ prakīrtitāḥ || 22 ||

It was divine knowledge, he thought, the only means of men's crossing over (the ocean) of this world; but austerity, charity and pilgrimage were no means to it.
