The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

इष्टानिष्टफलप्राप्ताविदमित्यस्य वाचकम् ।
आश्वासनामात्रवचो दैवमित्येव कथ्यते ॥ १० ॥

iṣṭāniṣṭaphalaprāptāvidamityasya vācakam |
āśvāsanāmātravaco daivamityeva kathyate || 10 ||

Destiny is that word of consolation which is uttered by men, as significant of the good or evil which they meet with and which they call to be the effect of the other.
