The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 2.6.26

कर्म यः प्राक्तनं तुच्छं न निहन्ति शुभेहितैः ।
अज्ञो जन्तुरनीशोऽसावात्मनः सुखदुःखयोः ॥ २६ ॥

karma yaḥ prāktanaṃ tucchaṃ na nihanti śubhehitaiḥ |
ajño janturanīśo'sāvātmanaḥ sukhaduḥkhayoḥ || 26 ||

He who is unable to overcome his false fate by his best exertions (in this life), is no better than an ignorant beast that has no power over its pain or pleasure.
