The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अनर्थः प्राप्यते यत्र शास्त्रितादपि पौरुषात् ।
अनर्थकर्तृ बलवत्तत्र ज्ञेयं स्वपौरुषम् ॥ ८ ॥

anarthaḥ prāpyate yatra śāstritādapi pauruṣāt |
anarthakartṛ balavattatra jñeyaṃ svapauruṣam || 8 ||

When one incurs a failure or danger even by his lawful exertions, he should know it to be the result of his misapplied exertions.
