The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 2.4.17

प्राक्तनं चैहिकं चेति द्विविधं विद्धि पौरुषम् ।
प्राक्तनोऽद्यतनेनाशु पुरुषार्थेन जीयते ॥ १७ ॥

prāktanaṃ caihikaṃ ceti dvividhaṃ viddhi pauruṣam |
prāktano'dyatanenāśu puruṣārthena jīyate || 17 ||

Know our actions to be of two kinds namely, those of former and present lives: and that acts of the present life generally supersede those of the past.
