The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 2.4.15

सारेण पुरुषार्थेन स्वेनैव गरुडध्वजः ।
कश्चिदेव पुमानेव पुरुषोत्तमतां गतः ॥ १५ ॥

sāreṇa puruṣārthena svenaiva garuḍadhvajaḥ |
kaścideva pumāneva puruṣottamatāṃ gataḥ || 15 ||

It was by virtue of his self-exertion that some body has become the best among men, even as he who bears the ensign of the eagle.
