The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 2.3.3

पिता शुकस्य सर्वज्ञो गुरुर्व्यासो महामतिः ।
विदेहमुक्तो न कथं कथं मुक्तः सुतोऽस्य सः ॥ ३ ॥

pitā śukasya sarvajño gururvyāso mahāmatiḥ |
videhamukto na kathaṃ kathaṃ muktaḥ suto'sya saḥ || 3 ||

And how it was that, the great sage Vyasa—the father and guide of Suka, did not attain to disembodied emancipation (after his death) with all his omniscience, while his son did so.
