The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 2.3.1

श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
पूर्वमुक्तं भगवता यज्ज्ञानं पद्मजन्मना ।
सर्गादौ लोकशान्त्यर्थं तदिदं कथयाम्यहम् ॥ १ ॥

śrīvasiṣṭha uvāca |
pūrvamuktaṃ bhagavatā yajjñānaṃ padmajanmanā |
sargādau lokaśāntyarthaṃ tadidaṃ kathayāmyaham || 1 ||

Vasishtha said:—“I will now expound to you Rama! the knowledge that was imparted of old by our lord the lotus-born (Brahma), after creation of the world, for the peace of mankind.”
