The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 1.22.2

हिमाशनिरिवाम्भोजं वात्येव शरदम्बुकम् ।
देहं जरा नाशयति नदी तीरतरुं यथा ॥ २ ॥

himāśanirivāmbhojaṃ vātyeva śaradambukam |
dehaṃ jarā nāśayati nadī tīrataruṃ yathā || 2 ||

Old age withers the body like a frost freezing the lake of lilies. It drives away the beauty of the person as a storm does the autumnal clouds; and it pulls down the body, as a current carries away a tree on the bank.
